Both restaurants, open to hotel guests as well as to the outside client, are located on the second floor of the Marqués de Riscal, a Luxury Collection Hotel. A work of art created by the renowned architect Frank O. Gehry considered a 21st century chateau.
 
Francis Paniego is the gastronomic consultant to both these restaurants. A Riojan chef, who’s proud of being the first in the region to be awarded a Michelin star for his culinary work at the Echaurren Restaurant. 
 
The Marques de Riscal and Bistro 1860 restaurants represent the perfect pairing of tradition and avant-garde cuisine. Located in the heart of the Vinos de los Herederos del Marques de Riscal Winery, a winery that celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2008. These restaurants are the highlight of an winetourism escape to the region combined with a visit of the winery, the medieval villages of Elciego and Laguardia or any of the area’s hundreds of historical, cultural and architectural treasures.
 
 

Marques de Riscal Restaurant

 
 
The Marques de Riscal Restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from Tuesday through to Saturday. A fusion of the Echaurren restaurant’s traditional family based cuisine with futuristic and creative techniques and recipes, produced with the finest local produce. When accessing the restaurant through an exterior elevator, its aroma coming from a below wine cave holding 8 millions of bottles in which the drink of Gods is ageing, submerges the visitor into the world of wine. The elevator’s doors open and a space of unique design is presented. Facing the visitor, an enormous refrigerated wine rack conserving over 200 wines from the 5 continents. On the left: a welcoming bar with unique views over the charming medieval town of Elciego and with an oversized window which frames, like a painting, the village’s awe-inspiring Saint Andrés church. The restaurant’s design is avant-garde, combining red walls, stainless steel “custard-cup” lamps dropping down from sky-high ceilings and elegant counters of copper and onyx stone. The Gehry style delicately melts with the fine dressing and setting of the tables. Crockery designed exclusively for Riscal, Zwiesel wine glasses designed by Enrico Bernardo and Puiforcat cutlery.
 
 
The blend of traditional Riojan cuisine with creative, original and groundbreaking dishes such as the foie-gras junket with red wine caviar and red pepper or the delicious tomato tartar with Norway lobster and cold white garlic soup creates an interesting and contrasting menu that wonderfully inspires and positively surprises the visitor. The place’s architecture, decoration, as well as the characteristic wine flavor of the Alavesa Rioja is also reflected in the innovative dishes prepared by Francis and their team.
  
The house wine Marques de Riscal, of course: 8 wines including reds, rosés, whites, and one very exceptional jewel, the Gehry Selection 2001. A limited edition, made of selected hand picked red grapes, fermented and aged especially for the grand opening celebration of the City of Wine. Worth highlighting are as well the winery’s historical vintages which, due to the age and fragility of the cork, are opened by cutting the top of the bottle off.
 
 
Hotels & Resorts, such as South African Blaauwklippen, Argentinean Norton Privada, French Sancerre or Cloudy Bay from New Zealand. The ideal is to count on the sommelier Marta Saenz’s expert advice, who will be pleased to arrange a specially selected wine pairing with the guest’s meal.  Both the restaurant’s menu and the wine list are available in Spanish, English, French and Braille. The team of 9 people in the dining room, including the Maître, the hostess, sommelier, waiters and waitresses along with the chef with his kitchen team of 20, will ensure that the guest has a memorable culinary experience.

Bistró 1860 

 
 
The Bistro 1860 at the Marques de Riscal, a Luxury Collection Hotel, is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week both to the in house guest and the outside client. It offers a traditional, seasonal fresh market cuisine. One can taste the most typical local dishes such as pulse and vegetable stews, homemade meat balls, fresh fish and meat. Healthy recipes with seasonal produce in an avant-garde, easy going and casual atmosphere are always accompanied by the best wines.
 
This restaurant offers stunning views of Elciego village with the Cantabria mountain range as a backdrop together with a modern interior design including orange chairs by Verter Panton and oversized pictures of the architect Frank Gehry’s first sketches of this 21st century chateau. The best time to come? Summer, when you can enjoy a lunch on the terrace covered by the building’s titanium and stainless steel canopies. The dining experience will leave you with a lasting memory of the surrounding vineyard’s peacefulness and tranquility and the town’s centuries old history.

Chef's Garden

 

Enjoy a meal with all your senses at the Chef's Garden.  Be enchanted by the picturesque view of the vineyards and the charming town of Elciego while savouring a special show cooking menu and smelling the aroma of the herbs and spices that surround you. To round of this unique experience the same herbs and spices decorating the Chef's Garden are used on the plates.

Apart of these two restaurants, the Marques de Riscal, a Luxury Collection Hotel, puts at the disposal of its clients a wonderful wine bar, a roof top lounge and other spaces, banquet and meeting rooms for larger groups. The Chirel and San Vicente ball and dining rooms with a capacity of over 650 people are located in the same named San icente Building, witch also hosts the most modern and technological part of the winery.
