Four years after its founding in 1858, Marqués de Riscal began a period of transformation with the arrival of master winemaker Jean Pineau, who introduced Bordeaux winemaking methods to the region.

The club was created as a tribute to Pineau, who became the winery’s first master winemaker and is an essential figure in the history of wine in Rioja. It offers an exceptional opportunity to become part of our winery’s history by purchasing the contents of a barrel of Club Jean Pineau, Reserva.

The Club Jean Pineau is more than a limited edition. It is your signature in our history.

Club Jean Pineau, Reserva

A Reserva made exclusively from estate-owned vineyards in the northern part of Elciego, in Rioja Alavesa, where conditions are especially favourable for preserving the grapes’ natural acidity, freshness and fruit expression.

Old Tempranillo vines, mostly planted before 1970, are harvested by hand. A greater proportion of Graciano lends the wine a more distinctive, spicy and fresh character. Ageing for 24 months in French and American oak barrels, followed by at least 15 months of refinement in bottle, preserves the fruit character of Club Jean Pineau, Reserva.

The contents of a barrel: 252 bottles

To join the Club Jean Pineau, members must purchase the contents of a barrel: 252 bottles of 0.75 L of Club Jean Pineau, Reserva from each edition, after accounting for losses during ageing.

An exclusive vintage unavailable through any other channel.

A personalised label

Each bottle bears the name or wording chosen by the Club Jean Pineau member, printed alongside the edition’s illustration. The vintage and the winemaking are the same, yet each bottle becomes unique when it bears a name of its own.

The wine is not personalised; the connection to it is.

A map that unfolds over time

Each year, the Club Jean Pineau introduces a different label inspired by one of the cities that have been part of Marqués de Riscal’s export history since the late 19th century. The journey begins in Elciego, at the iconic hotel designed by Frank O. Gehry, and will continue in New York, Paris, London and Havana.

Through this club, we pay tribute to a key figure in the history of our winery and modern Rioja.

The connection between Jean Pineau and Marqués de Riscal began with the Médoc Alavés project. In 1862, winery founder Guillermo Hurtado de Amézaga hired him to introduce Bordeaux winemaking methods and improve the quality of the wines. Among his innovations, the introduction of oak barrels for ageing was one of the most significant. When the project ended, Jean Pineau joined our winery, continuing to bring his savoir-faire to our wines.
