A wine that expresses the essence of Sauvignon Blanc, an internationally renowned grape variety.
The 2025 vintage of Marqués de Riscal Sauvignon Blanc, awarded 94 points in the Guía Vinos Gourmets 2026, is characterised by the vineyard’s natural selection and excellent grape quality, despite lower yields caused by downy mildew and spring rain and hail that year.
A French grape variety in Rueda: the vision of Marqués de Riscal
In 1974, Marqués de Riscal took a major step forward by introducing Sauvignon Blanc to the region under the guidance of Denis Boubals, a professor with a doctorate in oenology from the University of Montpellier.
Boubals advised Marqués de Riscal’s Technical and Production Department to make wines from this variety in Rueda, providing vine cuttings he had brought from France, which were used to graft the first vines. The result was Marqués de Riscal Sauvignon Blanc, a wine that helped the winery promote its Verdejo white wine internationally, thanks to Sauvignon Blanc’s greater international recognition.
Today, Sauvignon Blanc is one of the main grape varieties grown in the Rueda appellation.
