What gives character and style to a great wine? What makes it register in the memory as being of unquestionable excellence? Why is one wine rather than another invited as the special guest at the table of fine dining and good living? What virtues lead to its inclusion in the wine lists of the best restaurants? And finally, what unique feature arouses the enthusiastic response of the top sommeliers?
Marqués de Riscal Reserva responds to all these questions with poise and breeding, because it respects its heritage and its values, but is bold in its expectations, aspiring to seduce, surprise and convince you.
Our wine occupies one of the most generous vineyards of the Rioja Alavesa, a land which offers historic vines of undoubted excellence, which brings a character and a style to these great wines which have earned them worldwide recognition and international awards and prizes from the top critics and oenologists.
THE DISCOURSE ON THE METHOD. This is a wine with gravitas, with the taste of the authentic and the guarantee of sublime vintages. And in this 2014 vintage there was no spring frost and no wind or hailstorms in the summer. The grapes were in peak condition at the time of the harvest, which started on 24 September in the oldest vineyards and continued in excellent conditions until 12 October. Its structure? It is made from three superstar grape varieties: tempranillo 90%, graciano 7% and mazuelo 3%. The tempranillo vines were planted before the 1970s and are located in the best calcareous soils of the Rioja Alavesa. This grape withstands oak ageing very well and rounding off in the bottle. The result is a balanced, generous and full-bodied palate, and an unmistakable black-cherry colour. In the mouth it has intense depth but at the same time is fresh and easy to drink, with faint reminders of balsamic herbs, and on the nose it surprises you with hints of liquorice, cinnamon and black pepper, not to mention the high concentration of ripe fruit aromas. We invite you, dear reader, to drink a toast together with us with this deluxe wine, a guest at the tables of chic cuisine and a favourite of restaurant sommeliers.
