Marqués de Riscal Verdejo sobre Lías Finas 2025, a wine that captures the purest essence of Rueda

Marqués de Riscal has unveiled Marqués de Riscal Verdejo sobre Lías Finas 2025, a rich, full-flavoured wine born of the perfect combination of terroir, continental climate, the altitude of the Castilian plateau and the winery’s expertise.

This new wine has been awarded 93 points and named “Young White Wine Discovery” in Tim Atkin’s Rueda Top 100 2026 report, receiving the award at the international Wine Paris trade fair. Wine critic Beth Willard, who authored the report for the British critic, writes in her tasting notes:

“From older vines, over 25 years of age, grown on classic pebble-strewn terrace soils. This is a truly elegant wine at this price point, reflecting the stonier character of Rueda’s terrain. It has real structure and intensity, with a rich, concentrated palate driven by vibrant acidity. A fantastic new release from Riscal.”

Made from selected Verdejo grapes grown on the classic pebble-strewn soils of the River Duero’s high terraces, from vines over 15 years old, the wine benefits from night harvesting at low temperatures to preserve the must’s aromatic quality. Following an initial racking, it rests on fine lees—rich in inactive yeast cells—which enhance aromatic stability, lend a creamy mouthfeel and help preserve freshness in bottle.

Marqués de Riscal follows regenerative farming practices to restore microbial life in the soil, allowing the wine to express the full character of the grape variety and the distinctive personality of Rueda’s terroir. These practices include maintaining cover crops in alternate vineyard rows, using natural organic fertilisers, incorporating vine prunings into the soil and keeping tillage shallow and to a minimum. Biodiversity is also encouraged through cover crops and the planting of hedges and shrubs along vineyard boundaries.

The result is a distinctive wine that combines the variety’s classic aromas of fennel, freshly cut grass and white flowers with a creamy, rich texture, generous flavour and a fresh palate with lively acidity.
